Vaccinations are important for your Child. But the post-vaccination pains can take a toll on them as they fell distressed and become irritable. However, you can do a lot to put them at ease by following a few simple methods. Search for “pediatricians near me” online and connect with them to get the right advice on post-vaccination care.

Six tips to care for your child after vaccination:

1.) Apply Ice Pack on The Injection Site: As soon as your child gets vaccinated apply ice packs on the site of the injection. Chances are that the sight will swell up resulting in pain and discomfort to your child, using an ice pack helps reduce this pain. Remember don’t apply the ice directly on your child’s body, first rub it on your palm and apply cold icy water on the site of shot. Once your child is comfortable with the cold sensation you can wrap the ice cube in a clean cloth and put it on the area directly for a few minutes. You can repeat the same exercise twice or thrice daily.

2.) Don’t be Worried about a Fever: After a vaccination shot it is very common to develop a fever. If your child falls sick after vaccination, look for “pediatricians near me” online and inquire about the right medicine for your child.

3.) Attention Required: After a vaccination, your child may seek more attention from you. Your love and warmth will act as a medicine for them. For a few days, make them your priority and put your other concerns at bay. This connection developed at this young age will also develop a habit of them sharing their concern with you whenever they are in any kind of distress.

4.) Breastfeeding is a Great Medicine:  After vaccination when the child is in pain, the appetite may go down and they may not like to be fed solid foods. In such a scenario breastfeeding proves to be extremely comforting and at the same time will keep the child hydrated. If your child is off breast feeding, you can feed liquids as suggested by your pediatrician with some light meal.

5.) Distract the Child’s Attention: Once they are vaccinated the child’s mind tends to keep on focusing on the pain. You as a parent must try distracting them by engaging them with their favorite stories, games, toys and more.

Finally, remember that most shots are given on the thighs except one i.e. BCG which is given on the arm. Your child might find it difficult to walk due to pain and swelling on the thighs. There is nothing to worry about, unless the pain and lethargy continues for two days and more.
