You must have understood how important it is to get an MOT test done for our car. If passed, it declares that our vehicle is neither against road-safety standards nor against a pollution-free environment. When you send your car for an MOT Test, the tester also carries out some those checks which are very simple but play a huge role in terms of safe and comfortable driving. Many times we don't pay attention to them that results in an MOT failure, so we should be prepared for them in advance. To explain all this, we have prepared this blog for you.

All the Lights and Indicator— Do you know that many times our car fails in MOT test because its lights do not work? Here the light may be in a bad condition, firstly it may be broken or damaged and secondly there may be a problem with its brightness like it is getting dim or not lighing. After this you will also understand that the light plays a very important role in keeping us safe in driving and if it does not work properly then you will understand how much trouble it can cause only not only for yourself but also for others. Keeping in mind the depth of this matter, DVSA has also made it mandatory to check the lights during MOT checks. Here we are talking about running lights, main beam, indicators, headlights, high beam etc. whether they are installed at the rear or front of the car.

Tyres:- Testers check many things related to tyres to know whether they are capable of performing well in the future or not. If there is any crack or bulge in the tyre, it is believed that it will quickly reach a state of wear. They are therefore reported for repair or rejected and fail the MOT. Often your vehicle is issued a failure tag because the tyre tread depth is not sufficient i.e. it does not meet the minimum legal requirement which is 1.6 mm. This is done because in this condition the tyres do not get good grip, which creates danger on the road. Similarly, auto professionals here recommend that the tyre should be able to gain adequate grip on the road as this depth is much less than 3 mm. Another thing to note is that if anyone is caught using tyres with illegal tread depth, they will be fined up to £2500 and some other penalties.

Registration Plate:The registration plate on our car gives a lot of information about it which is very important for official purposes. Therefore, even though it may not be important from road safety point of view, it plays an important role for legal purposes. Therefore, the government wants that any letter printed on the plate should be clearly shown. If there is any deficiency or anything else, it should be considered illegal. So make it perfect or apply for customizing a new registration plate as it is also checked during MOT test.

Windscreen:- Just imagine how much difficulty the driver will face in driving safely if there is a sticker stuck on the windscreen or if there is any damage to it. Because the driver will not be able to realize the movement of the outside in time or to concentrate due to obstacles, which is against road safety standards. Therefore the MOT examiner has to also inspect the windscreen and declare a result according to whatever situation arises. Although you may feel this is a general checking point,  from a security point of view its importance is very high.

Windscreen Wipers:- The windscreen is clean so the wipers should also be in the same condition. While investigating, MOT examiners noticed that the wiper blade had a sharp particle that could scratch the windscreen rather than clean it. If this happens they will recommend that you get the problem rectified, this will rule out other minor causes of MOT failure. You do not need to replace the entire wiper as the problem can be solved by simply replacing its blades.

Suspension System:- When any part of the suspension system wears out or becomes excessively worn, it is likely to fail an MOT test. The suspension works to deal with bumps and potholes and protects the vehicle occupants from hits and discomfort. If there is any kind of fault in it, then it starts making strange sounds like a knocking sound and when you drive the car, it also uncontrollably moves in one direction. That is why testers do not take much time to declare MOT failure even if a defect is observed in any part of the suspension (coiled springs, strut rods, transverse rods, shock absorbers, etc.). Do you know that when you drive at high speed or on bumpy roads, it causes cracks or excessive wear and damaged suspension parts?

Last Words:- We hope you understand how even small problems can make it difficult for you to pass an MOT test. You should also consider this before attending your MOT Test in Uxbridge. If any problem is found in any part during any inspection then it is categorized as minor or major problem.
