Fuel Gas Conditioning - Removing the Damaging Impurities from Gas

This machine treats the ample amount of impurities including the water in liquid form, water vapor, and solid particles present in the gas.
Objective
Ideally, the fuel gas conditioning system was designed to purify gas. This purified gas could be then used more productively by the gas turbine. An important role of the fuel gas conditioning system is to prevent any kind of damage to the gas turbine and increase the productivity all-together. If the fuel gas conditioning system is combined with the integrated modular process skid, there will be an addition in the number of benefits like the increase in speed, efficiency, cheaper cost, etc.
Significance of the Fuel Gas Conditioning System:
The fuel gas conditioning system, also known as the fuel gas treatment package has many advantages.
- Generally, fuel gas carries a variety of natural impurities. If not treated, these impurities can cause problems in the gas turbine. To prevent the damage, fuel gas treatment package was designed.
- The fuel gas conditioning system reduces maintenance costs by preventing damage to the gas turbine. The damage prevention undoubtedly leads to an increase in the longevity of the gas turbine.
- The overall efficiency of the gas turbine increases with the fuel gas treatment package taking care of the impurities.
- There is an assurance of high level industrial and environmental safety due to an increase in reliability of the gas turbine all-together.
Impurities removed by the Fuel Gas Conditioning System:
Now that we have understood what a fuel gas conditioning system is, its objective and its significance, we can move on to the kinds of impurities that are removed during the treatment process.
Just like taught in the science classes in the school times, impurities removed can be categorized into three groups; solid particles, liquid, and gas. To make the concept clearer, let us understand them briefly.
Solid particles:
Impure particles like small rocks, sand, and rust are found in gas. If not paid attention, these impure particles may lead to severe damage in the gas turbine. As all the machines in the oil and gas industry are highly valuable, damage in one of them would affect the pockets badly.
Liquid:
Impurities in liquid form in gas include water vapor, condensed gas, heavy hydrocarbons, oil, etc. Neglecting the presence of the liquid impurities in the gas can lead to temperature fluctuations in the system. Emissions, deposits or even the hot spots on the combustor can be examples of temperature fluctuations.
Gas:
Impurities in the form of gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide etc. can be dangerous to the gas turbine. These gases can lead to deposits, emissions or even corrosions. Such gases end up polluting the gas turbine which results in the compromise of the function of the turbine
Now that we know the significance of the fuel gas conditioning system, it would be easier to take care of the gas turbine and get good efficiency.
