It has been estimated that around 4 to 6% children in the United States have food allergies that have considerably increased in the last 15 to 20 years. Living with food allergy is not easy, especially for kids as it is really difficult to identify food that might be causing allergic reaction in kids. According to Food Allergy Research and Education, 1 out of every 13 children is allergic to at least one food and about 40% of those children experience severe life-threatening reactions. For parents the biggest problem is that they have no idea if their kids have food allergies until they introduce the food to their kids for the first time and a reaction occurs. Thus, it is vital for  parents as well as anyone who take care of the kids to be aware for signs of a food allergy.

Eight foods that usually known to cause food allergic reactions in kids are milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and crustacean shellfish. Allergies might also occur due to few other foods like meats, fruits, vegetables, grains, and seeds like sesame. when a child has a food allergy due to any of the above mentioned food, their immune system overreacts producing antibodies to the food, as if it were a virus or other dangerous foreign invader. A food allergy usually happens when the body reacts against harmless proteins found in foods. The reaction usually occur shortly after a food is eaten. A food allergy might affects kids breathing, intestinal tract, heart or even skin and a child may develop one or more food allergy symptoms within a few minutes to an hour after consuming the food. 

Parents if suspect that their child has a food allergy then they should fixed an appointment with their pediatrician or an allergist. The doctor will be the best to identify the food that might be causing the problem and suggests them with the best treatment plan. Parents must see an allergist  for expert care and relief, as the doctor will choose an appropriate method or combination of methods to make a diagnosis. The diagnosis takes place in the allergist's office after getting a detailed medical history of the child and family history of allergies or asthma along with a physical exam and allergy sensitivity testing.

Blood test is the most common food allergy test that is used by allergists to detect allergens. Food allergy test suggested for kids help identify their allergic reactions to food items that are usually associated with food allergy. Though the blood allergy test might not be 100% accurate but still the test reports will provide some useful information for the proper management of the allergy symptoms.  Besides the allergy testing will help to identify potential allergens that might be leading to allergic reactions. By identifying the allergen that might be causing allergic reactions in kids, parents can avoid those food items and even the clinicians will be able to aptly manage the disease.
