In simple terms briquette is a flammable log created from different types of organic waste materials. Basically categorized as Charcoal briquettes and biomass briquettes, they make an effective energy source.

This blog is a knowledge booster on charcoal briquettes with details like its types, manufacturing and benefits for the users.

Charcoal briquettes are the recycled wood, mineral char or mineral carbon compressed and dried under high temperature. Don’t be confused with the name and consider it as charcoal. These are just a blend of charcoal with other ingredients processed to enable the raw material burn easily without causing pollution. Widely used in industries as well as at homes, the briquetting manufacturers usually dry them up to 12-18% moisture content. Wood, sawdust, coconut shells, agriculture waste etc. are some of the raw materials used for briquetting process.

Types of charcoal briquettes:

Basically the charcoal briquettes are divided in different types on the bases of their shapes and the raw material used in these. The major two types include: pillow shaped briquettes and hexagonal briquettes.

Pillow shaped briquettes: Made from sawdust and other wood waste material, the manufacturing process of these briquettes includes high pressure on charcoal. These briquettes are made with additives and binders like starch. Other additives used for different features in briquettes include brown coal, mineral carbon, limestone and borax.

Hexagonal briquettes: As the name suggests, these are sawdust briquettes in hexagon shape. These are binder less briquettes and make a completely natural fuel source with zero smoke and harmful gases. Briquetting plants set up to product these briquettes run without additives and process with high temperature. These briquettes are more preferred in barbeque due to their odorless, smokeless and long burning time features.

Benefits of Charcoal briquettes

• Economic fuel source

• High heat as compare to other fuels

• Constant heat

• Effective in both domestic and industrial application

• Easy to light

• Don’t create any ash and smoke

If you like open fire and grilling, and looking for smoke free fuel source, charcoal briquettes are perfect choice for you.
