MY FIRST CAR-'52 CHEVROLET

In 1957 while in graduate school at Washington State University, I purchased my very first car.
It was a 1952 Chevrolet Deluxe Coupe.
Its color was two tone with the body being white and the hard top black.
This 5-year old car
was purchased with monies saved from my WSU scholarship.
In 1958, I departed Washington State and headed home to Baton Rouge, LA
That meant driving my '52 Chevrolet 2700 miles: Pullman, WA to Baton Rouge, LA
It took 3 days of driving the coupe at about 900 miles per day
I did not stop at any hotels on the way, just pulled over to road side for a nap
The first stop was in Eastern Utah. The second stop was in Amarillo, TX
I retained ownership of the car until I joined the US Military to fulfil a military obligation based on my ROTC commission as a 2nd Lieutenant
The car was sold while stationed at Camp Irwin, CA and replaced with a new Pontiac Bonneville. That car color was maroon

What a great story, Bill! It’s amazing how much history and personal memory can be tied to a first car. Driving a '52 Chevrolet cross-country without hotel stops sounds like quite the adventure—especially covering 900 miles a day! The detail about funding it with your WSU scholarship adds a nice personal touch. It must’ve been bittersweet to part with it when you joined the military.
