6 Places to visit in the magnificent city of Bareilly

A city which owes its popularity to Bollywood, Bareilly was on everybody's lips in 60’s and 70’s, when the movie Mera Saaya came out in 1966. Mostly famous for its magnificent temples and holy places, Bareilly is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Uttar Pradesh. 1. Alakhnath Temple: One of the main worship place for the Naga Sanyasis, the temple is dedicated to the people coming from the Anand Akhara order. People worship animals here hence you can find creatures like goats, cows and camels in the center yard of the temple.

2. Trivati Nath Temple: One of the best temples in the city, the temple was renovated recently giving it a fresh look and various modern facilities. The legend related to the temple is even more interesting with a saint Trivati Nath envisioning his rebirth as God Shiva’s disciple near the three Banyan Trees where he used too live. After sometime a shepherd saw three shiva lings emerging in the trees after which the temple was created to pray the holy saint.  

3. Tulsi Math: Located near the Alakhnath Temple, Tulsi Math is known to be the home of the author of Ramcharitmanas, Tulsidas. Visit the temple to see the beautiful figurines of the various gods and goddesses. Not only this, it is also believed that Tulsidas was the reincarnation of Valmiki which makes the place even more interesting. With the math  located nearby various other temples you should definitely visit the place as it is of great historical importance.

4. Jagannath Temple: One of the most historical temples in Bareilly, the temple is almost 200 years old. Although, somewhat less popular due its remote location, people still visit the temple as it is well connected by road. The USP of this temple is the figurine of Jagannath carved out of wood. The temple is also situated near the Alakhnath Temple and you should visit it to witness its grandeur and beauty.

5. Dargah e Alahazrat: It is a tomb of Ahmed Khan Raza who was a renowned Hanafi Jurist of 19th century. He was known for his resistance to the Wahhabis in India for their orthodox approach to Islam. It is one of the most renowned tombs of India as it was built to commemorate a person who laid his life to safeguard the interest of the various other people. Visit the Dargah to see the dome of the Dargah which was created by the use of matchsticks.

6. Chulle Miyan’s Lakshmi Narayan Temple: One of the most interesting places to visit in Bareilly, the story behind the temple makes it a perfect destination for people seeking knowledge of the city. It is believed that when Pakistani Hindus came to India in 1947, they started to build a temple on the land owned by Fazal-u-Rehman (Chunne Miyan) without his permission. After which he filed a case in the court but then gave it up and ultimately started aiding it financially after which it was renowned as Chunne Miyan’s temple.
