Security is the biggest challenge to network administrators and PC users. There are many security flaws that can affect you one way or the other.

However, PC user/administrators must do all they can to ensure the security of their networks. But some people don’t even know how to start and what to use. Here in this post, I will share my simple ideas that you can use to have a great security.

Upgrade your Antivirus

This goes to the usage of outdated anti-virus tools. When dealing with windows platform it’s crucial you make everything current. Keeping antivirus up to date is the only way to protect vulnerable machines from malicious software and files.

Use Network Access Control (NAC).

There are many different kind of network access control tools you will find online. With this system on your network you can rest assured that rogue devices will have a much smaller chance of connecting. You can give PacketFence a trial.

Block users from installing software

It’s very risky when users will just download and installed anything they like on your PC. Though it can be a pain when users actually need software, but all you have to do is to talk to the administrator. You’ll have far fewer viruses and less malware to deal with than you would if the users were allowed to install at will. The give and take is certainly worth it here.

Switch your browser and disable add-ons

With the improvement of Firefox you can give it a trial or you can try to improve any browser that you have interest on in anyway. Though, FireFox may be getting a bit bloated more it still far more secure than the windows counterpart.

Remember that when it come to the use of add-ons, there are some that are necessary for work why some are not. Some that are not needed should not be used.

Deploy a hardware based firewall

If you want real security, you need a dedicated firewall on your network. This firewall will be a single point of entry that will stop many more attempted breaches than the standard software based firewall will.  Check for Sonicwall or Fortinet hardware firewall as your primary protection.

In addition to the point above, try to enforce a strict password policies and do not share your network folder with everyone. Securing your network and PCs is a constant battle but with the right tools and strategies, your network may be a well safer arena for productivity.
