Why Should I Click Your Ad?

It is not unusual to find banner ads on whichever web page you surf. At times, I find so many banners on a page that I feel people are up to a protest of some sort.

How many times have you clicked a banner - outside of a Paid To Click (PTC) site? In the initial days, I used to religiously click whenever I found "Click Here" as if it were some sort of a command from WWW and my bounden duty to obey it. As days moved on, I, generally, started ignoring such dictatorial so-called "Call for Action" ads. I strongly disagree, disapprove and deplore with this advice of Call for Action. Personally, I feel this sort of advice presumes I am a dud who doesn't do any work or act.

When I checked on Google, for "Click Here", I found 3,050,000,000 results in Broad match and 2,750,000,000 results in Exact match. I feel the call for action part should be a voluntary one from the person who sees the ad and not forced. Opinions may differ as I found from this expert, Terry Dean, who suggests the following features of a good ad:

1. Use the words "Click Here" or "Enter" every time you design a banner.
2. Animate Your Banners.
3. Create quick loading banners.
4. Use an awesome headline in your banner.
5. The best word to use in your banner headline is "FREE."
6. Blue underlined text will often increase your response rate.
7. A blue border will give you a better response rate then any other color border
        for your banner.
8. It is often a good idea to use your web site address or some type of
        company logo in the banner.
9. Use trick banners.
10. Change your banner ads frequently.

Of course, I cannot agree with some of his suggestions but I will leave it up to you to decide.

I use banners in several TE's, blogs and sites, In fact I use banner rotators that is other wise it would cost me to much time updating them. I can change all banners in minute so it does not require much time. And on a lot of places free so why not use it.

All I know is when I can get 2-4% response to a banner I get free impressions for, it's pretty hard to go wrong. I used 300 impressions to show this banner and got 24 people to click it: http://www.ibotoolbox.com/imagevault/4756_banner.jpg

Sometimes I actually do click banners, but they really have to draw my attention. Sometimes just like marketing an opportunity it's the repetitiveness that gets people to click.

I only click banners that interest me. When using banner I will add a call to action with a purpose. I write an article with information but then at the bottom of the article after the information is presented I will add a banner with text at the end of the article to "Click the banner for more information"

I give people a reason to click. Banners that just say click here are passe and most people treat then that way. People do not just click for the sake of clicking anymore, that's a res

Granted you or I may simply ignore a call to action as just another aspect of the ad, a huge majority of people will act on it. In some cases new users may not even realize that there is an action involved and having that call to action can help serve as a device for clarification and direction for the end user.

I always use a call to action in my advertisements because not only does it tend to create higher CTR, but you will come across some audiences who actually need the guidance..

Interesting articles, but I have never found that banner advertising works for me. I am more interseting in reading an interesting article or review about a product I am searching for.

I thought banners were a waste of time for a long time, but lately I have been having what I consider great results in the 2% to 4% click rate and I do follow Terry Dean's suggestions. It's hard to argue with success and the ones I post are free, so that provides an infinite return.

I don't click banners often. Unless there is something in the text on it that really appeals to me. I do believe banners can help branding. I agree you should banners and ads frequently because of banner blindness.
