Do You Know The (True) Purpose of ListBuilding?
A recent discussion about lists and the pro's and con's of having one, and / or subscribing to one got me to thinking that a lot of people still don't get the purpose of having a list of your own. And what you should do with it.
I've recently posted an article on another forum about the exact same thing. You can view it here:
Do You Know The Purpose of List Building?
Basically, what you need to realise is that if you want to make money, you have to have a list of contacts. If you can't make sales and get subscribers you can't make money.
But a list should never be seen as a way of sending out a whole bunch of ads to a whole bunch of people. Your list is your way of letting people get to know you, letting them see that you are a real person, letting them know that you can help them, you can give them tips, you can offer advice and that THEY are your concern, NOT making money.
Much the same way as building contacts here at Apsense, building a list should be based on the same principles. Think of it as your social/business networking site. Because that's what it's going to be. If you offer something of value, your list members will answer and strike up a relationship with you. THAT is the purpose of listbuilding.
If all you do is send out a different ad every day or even the same ad every day, people will be off your list a darn sight quicker than they joined it.
- Building a list allows you to start building relationships.
- Building relationships allows you to build trust.
- Building trust allows you to build your business!
Build your list right and keep it right. That is how it will grow.
Don't spam - that is what will cause it to shrink.
