How to Find the Real Person behind the Profile Picture?

In my previous article titled "Are You Not Beautiful?", I had pointed to violation of APSense code of conduct by some of the members. While self-introspection and voluntary action was expected and my nature or etiquette not permitting me to exposing people, I had to do some research a la reverse engineering!

I had come across several celebrities like models and Bollywood film actresses on FaceBook and wondered whether they all had reached the end of their career and had no work to do but chat with people like you and me. To my horror, I found three or four Katrina Kaif's (Bollywood actress) all chatting among themselves.

My quest for ascertaining facts led me to TinEye! I have culled out the following from their website:

  • TinEye is a reverse image search engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions.
  • TinEye was created by Idée Inc. Idée develops advanced image identification and visual search software for photo wire agencies, stock photography firms, entertainment media companies and some of the world's leading imaging firms including Adobe Systems Inc., iStockphoto, and Associated Press.
  • TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks. It is free to use for non-commercial searching.
  • TinEye regularly crawls the web for new images, and we also accept contributions of complete online image collections. To date, TinEye has indexed 1,958,654,947 images from the web to help you find what you're looking for.
  • The free for non-commercial use version of TinEye at tineye.com allows you to do up to 50 searches per day, up to 150 searches per week.
If you want to conduct an experiment, just right-click on a suspiciously good looking profile picture and select 'copy image link'. Paste the link in the search box of TinEye! Find out the celebrity 'culprit' !

Well, who is the real and who is the unreal?

I thank all of you for the most generous comments I ever had. This tells a lot about the bondings of the APSense community, nay, family! Writing articles for ezines never made me aware of either my capabilities or my short-comings but thanks to this great site and its members' response, I rest assured that not only me but several people share my thoughts.

Special thanks to JFB and Paula - I have proudly submitted this article today to your blogs.

This is a great resource which I will bookmark. This was not the content I expected from the title but I love the article. What I thought this article would be about is that people should not only claim credits but must actualy read what is written; both the postings and the comments on it. It is the only way to learn something about members business ethics and if he they is knowledgeable in a certain field. I never check out comments that say no more than "very nice, thank you". I do check out

Good article Mohann! But if the person will actively participate on sites like APSense, write interesting articles and affects the interests of all the threads, I think the interest in him shall not perish, but even increase, it will be interesting to know who he really.Photography is the only certain guarantee of confidence to this man.

Another great article, Mohann! Didn't know there are reverse search possibilities. That some people use pictures of celebrities or models I figured out long time ago. That's why I gave up facebook. Well, I prefer to use my own picture. And I use the same picture everywhere! That's the way to brand yourself.

Working on one project at a time.

Excellent article.............the first sentence says it all, how you feel about yourself...........no l could not of said it better..............has been a problem here for a while..............but like all sites.........you have the hoppers in and out..............why they never make a dime on the net.............Real Businesses have a full profile, pictures indicates who you are dealing with........adds confidence, credibility.............and most of all respect with honor....

What APSense

The people who feels fun/need fun uses the pictures of celebrities. For them everything is fun. Real people with real intention never use others pictures. They are not showing their picture not because it is ugly, there mind is ugly. So it is their mind and psych it acts.

I find it odd that people don't use their real profile picture, after all you are trying to create a brand with your name and image. I so suppose "borrowing" and identity solves some of the work of creation...but hides the real person from the whole world.

Amen Philippe, instead we will have Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Captain Jack Sparrow and the Joker ala Heath Ledger all trying to out spam each other!

I see more and more animals, babies, logos, pictures of nature. How can these people brand themselves if they don't use a personal picture? Same with username: "Problem recruiting people", "canteachsuccess", yeah right, we will trust you at once just because of that username.

Thanks, Fred. Technology has gone so much ahead that on the internet you can get almost any information you need. Internet Marketing is a serious business and it should help create mutual trust. That's all I want to say again and again. The real you comes from your ideas and your actions, not from celebrity faces.

"To my horror, I found three or four Katrina Kaif's (Bollywood actress) all chatting among themselves." Mohann, that one really cracked me up. To all those who are using pictures of celebrities: please use your real picture - we are not interested in the celebrities but in the real you.
