Human growth hormone (HGH), also called somatropin, is a polypeptide chain that consists of 191 amino acids. HGH is made in the anterior pituitary gland. HGH is released into the blood by the hypothalamus where it travels to the liver. The liver then transforms HGH into Insulin-Like Growth Factor Type 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 is receptive to the body's organs and muscles, where HGH is not. IGf-1 is then transported through the bloodstream where needed.
