Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, USA. Attended Savannah High and ran track and cross county. Started the first women's track and cross-country teams, as previously this had been men only. Loved animals, especially horses and music. Rode and trained horse and drive carriage horses while in college. Had prepared for a career as a veterinarian, but severe allergies to animals induced a change to the other love - music. Studied voice under Dan Radebaugh at Armstrong Atlantic University in
