Hey, guys. I was wondering my Apsense and a lot of other forums have begun using UBB Codes rather than standard html codes and tags? Also, I was wondering what it stands for. Thanks.

It would be less confusing if we didn't have to figure out which to use for what.
Apsense will get it together! They are new...and have come A LONG WAY! Thank you!

I like UBB it's a lot easier. But I learned html first. They are both very similar, but I think UBB is less confusing.

UBB has been around a lot longer than HTML. Not sure how many here can remember the old days of dail-up and the old bulletin boards in the days of DOS (Disc Operating System - for the younger folks :-) from the old days of computing way back in the 70's and 80's.

The links are not in the comments but in the signature line. If you go to "Update Profile", there is a box for adding your signature line and links are allowed there. Once you set it up, you link will appear at the end of all your posts, comments and blogs.

Not allowing HTML stops people from being able to add malicious scripts to the website. Also cuts down on span, redirects...ect.

Using UBB allows you to add legit items (urls, ect) to the post without the possibility of malicious activity.

It's just safer..... yeah I like it unTECHy ! It's just safer. BTW how did u add the link on the comment. Aren't they supposed to be not allowed UBB code in comments

I actually find the UBB code to be easy to use and convenient since they use them on other forums too. And with the list right at hand by clicking the link I don't have to remember them all.

Hi Mark,

UBB Code is with square brackets [ and ]

and is used in group posts.

Html codes use the left and right chevrons ( or less than and greater than sign depends what you want to call them) < and >
and are used in the Business center and blogs areas

as a n example to get bold with UBB Code
you need bold words

the html equivalent is bold words

hope this helps

Good Morning, All.

Pardon me for seeming ignorant about this subject,
but when it comes to formatting, how can I tell anyone
difference between HTML and USSB code?

Universal Bulletin Board Code is a much safer variation of HTML... forums and blogs utilise this code also for it's simplicity.

UBB Code is a variation on the HTML tags. It allows you to add functionality or style to your message that would normally require HTML. You can use UBB Code even if HTML is not enabled for the forum you are using. You may want to use UBB Code as opposed to HTML, even if HTML is enabled for your forum, because there is less coding required.

I believe it stands for "Ultimate Bulletin Board".

Hope it Helps!
