Top it or Drop it? Can you POP it?

Top it or Drop it? Can you POP it? There is yet again a new feature to play with here at Apsense. When you first come to an article you now have the ability to thumbs up or thumbs down what you read. But Apsense has not really explained this new feature. Or maybe I just could not find it. Anyone with any information would be great. Do you get points for your opinion? Can you be kicked so low now one will ever find you again? Can you be ranked so high that your post never leaves the front page? If you get the thumbs down will you know who did it? And will people be less likely to post a reply because they felt a simple thumbs-up was all they needed to do? I really like to see people writing more than clicking. I also find it interesting that you can vote on any post. That is to say you don’t have to belong to a group to Top it or Drop it, where as you do have to belong to a group to comment. As a side note - I do think I will like this feature but there may be some kinks to work out. All the best Valerie

This is a dog eat dog world, and I full admire and agree whole heartedly with all your suggestions. Top or drop...I was SO lost on this concept. I actually when I first started.......TOPPED so many.
Just cause I thought I did so.....'topped it'.
Till I got it....so your welcome for all the 10's I gave...he he! (And by the way don't regret it ...as much as I can help you makes my day)
I searched and searched for ways to understand the concept, until it finally DING DINGED on me!
I don't so mu

I think it's a lazy exercise to simply clicking a button, up or down. Valerie made a post recently where she suggested ways of enhancing one's standind at Apsense. This topping and dropping thing was included. Since one is not obliged to justify one's up or down rating, what prevents one from lazily topping or dropping away casually just to earn some points? I think there should be an added condition that the ratings should be justified. Otherwise, some friends could collude to do reciprocal top

Good Point Jeanette, this is business and business is what I plan to gain from Apsense.

But…

To be quite honest when you say ‘tool’ I think of work. And when I sit down at Apsense it feels much more like play.

Hi Valerie,

I like this system and it is strategic, but I would not call it a "toy". "Tool" is the more apropriate term. We are, after all here to help each other.

Thank you Kristian

If all else fails read the directions : ) right!

Although - some of those cause and effect questions are still left for us to experiment with.

On our "How it Works" there's a pretty clear explanation about it:

Deciding

Top It? At Apsense the quality of the contents are decided by our users through a simple rating system. If you see contents that think is good and deserves more attention, just take a few seconds to click the "Top It" button. The more votes and good ratings a particular content receives, the higher it will be listed in our listings and search results.

Drop It? On the other hand,

Well i personally think it has more logic than the old percentage based option.

With this "strategic system" members don't get banned.... the posts just dissapear into never, never land!

It is funny because I don’t see this 'Top it or Flop it' system as a spam control at all. It is just a new game that has a strategy to it.

(Yes I used the word strategy - and if you don’t think there are whole websites devoted to strategy - try a Google search for the strategy of making money online.)

I see this as a new toy that Apsense has throw into the mix just to see what we might do with it.

And it has nothing to do with Spam.

Hey,

Great questions! I even gave it a topper or 2.

I have seen a lot of "for and against" discussions on the topic and I even think Kristian make a post explaining the system somewhere. Lynn has a thread on the subject also - would offer it, but I can't put links into comment posts.

But if you find Lynn's post - my PPC Offer is still open, lol!

I think the only person who should be able to decide what's spam are the Group Moderators - some Groups have 5 to 6 Six people -

Valerie;

It's all true except this statement "If you get the thumbs down will you know who did it?"-people would be threatening people and getting the Italians involved if you know what I mean?

So, that you get to experience never leaving the front page, I Topped your Post.

To Your Success,

Coach Steve

Hi Valerie,

Its basically the new SPAM reporting system. Rather than lose points you can now simply "Drop" a post that is considered spam.
