unwana e. Might be hard sometimes and it is true that women sometimes provoke - but this could be discussed only in cases when TWO individuals are involved. However, even though provocations are not justifiable, rape is always an act of violence and cannot be defended.
Pankaj Kumar - someone must have shown/told to them that women are sex object and I do not believe their mothers could have done it.

Boys are more responsible for the rape cases because of the reason of their desires. All the boys above 14 or 15 years of age watch the pornographies.. which make them desire for what all is there in the video. Another case which could be there is their thinking. They are attracted towards the girls wearing short clothes. If the girls are wearing to lure them intentionally then it wont be called as rape but if they are wearing for their own sake i.e. if the feel comfortable then its the mistake

Ljerka S. It's hard to say this... Recently two days ago.i hard deal with a case of such but standing on impluses, i blame both parties jet i know it's a crime but my personal standing is view is for it to be a total crime both parties should not be neutral in relationship of any kind. E.g boyfriend/girlfriend,marriage,dating,co-habitation etc

unwana e. there is no such thing as a mutual responsibility and wrong impulses when rape is the question - especially such rapes as those that happened recently in India. Any rape is a big crime.

Both parties are responsible because of wrong impluses at each others or at another at a given dispose and un-dispose time.

Agree: penalties should be lasting penalties, not short-term. Or sterilization? I do not know what exactly you mean by severe.

This question seems to be edited since I first answered. Originally it was not India specific. But what I said still stands.
Clearly it's time to change this general attitude, with a crackdown on ALL violence against women and severe penalties.

Yogesh, the woman does not provoke the man. That's ridiculous and is just making excuses for such horrible actions

I agree with your comments but the answer is not as simple as that. It has its roots in the history of India and overall attitude towards women in general. Unfortunately and obviously, still vivid in India.

What kind of question is this? Rape is a crime of violence, man against woman. It is ALWAYS the rapist who is at fault. 100% of the time. In no way and in no circumstance is the woman ever at fault
