Another favourite was "Make boats out of cookie boxes (complete with pencils and tissues for masts and sails) and have naval battles on the pond until one ship was in flames"
In many ways, when you are forced to use your imagination to create your own games they stick in your head longer than do commercial and manufactured ones.
