What is .htaccess file? Is it compulsory for site or any security risk not to use a .htaccess file?

.htaccess file is required to run the web page & even this allow to redirect the site pages as well by using 301 code.

In other words we can say that .htacess file is the life of a website.

It is a file used on Apache /linux servers (not windows servers) and is read by the apache software in order to load your website correctly... it can contain information suc as what php version to execute... how to allow robots to crawl your site and lots of other info... usually a site can function normally if you were to delete it... however having the Wrong information in or an out of date htaccess file can cause errors... you should not modify that file unless you have extensive php/html cod
