Nick, I sell everything from paper clips to jet plane charters and you're right for the most part. But you made me laugh because there was one time I was having a hard time selling anything. I tried every which way to make a sell nothing happened. So I came out with a paid ad that basically said - I need you to buy this because...

My sells came in fast and furious. I was later told that the word "because" has a powerful effect on people. It never work again but for that moment I defied the odds

OK Isabelle, although I'm not a fan of the behind the scenes of Facebook I do appreciate the variety of people that one can attract especially with words. Talking to your audience is key, people can trust someone better that they know and accept it better if things don't go right.

advertising on facebook helps me attract readers...i d say social networking and a lot of personal effort on author-book websites...spending time talking to my audience...doing my own ads like my book trailer...constantly advertising...

Krishnamurthi, you are taking things to the next level. The clarity of doing business is the level that I'm trying to master. Instead of having things pull you in different directions you pull them. Then learn to get them to flow with you. I'm at the beginning of the later part.

Robert and James, you are laying it out perfectly! It's not about you! It's about your client, when the client no longer feels like a client but like a friend right off you both win. When the desperation to make a sell overshadows the inspiration to help someone you will lose at some point. Just my 2 cents.
