@Kundan: You need to check the database in this situation. If the root domain is giving 404 then it could be due to database error. Most of the time when we change password of database, it's our responsibility to update the passwords in index file. Try checking the database index file and match the passwords. Or get in touch with the developer to get it fixed.
@Prashant_Ojha: How to follow your idea of redirection when cache of home page of one of my client's website is returning with 404 while using the site operator, the home page URL of the same website is appearing well?
Beginning in 2018 Google’s Mobile-first Indexing has led to a loss of cache views in Google’s search results. Google says this is a known issue. They have not indicated when or if they will “fix” it. If you received a noticed from Google Search Console saying that your site has been moved to the Mobile-first index, you have done nothing wrong and there is nothing you can do to restore the cache visibility. See the detailed explanation at the end of this article for more information.
Vaibhav: Try adding permanent redirection on URL's which are appearing in SERP but giving you 404 while clicking on cached data. for example if you are getting a URL www,example,com/blog-post in SERP and getting 404 while clicking on cached data then you can use the following code in your .htaccess file.
redirect /blog-post to www, example, com (or any other location where you want)
Once you are done, submit your sitemap or use new search console to request for indexing.
I had this problem earlier with one of my blog. Whenever I was searching website on google by typing site:mydomain.com, I was getting site URL in SERP but when I was clicking on cached data it was giving me 404. I solved the problem by using 301 on those url's. You can add redirection and submit your sitemap. See if it fix your problem else you can open new search console and go to url inspection, paste the URL and see the errors which you are getting. If there's no error then simply request for
