On a fairly regular basis I would send a few mails out to connections (four or five at a time) with the sole idea of building rapport and to "make contact", to compliment them on skills mentioned in their profile and so forth - NOT to promote anything. My experience has mostly been one of two responses:
1. A reply in a three or four worded, closed ended response, which doesn't acknowledge the fact that you're actually trying to reach ou

I have found that I recommend people I have worked with and have known for some time, but I acknowledge people who take the time to do something meaningful, helpful or creatively inspired. Such is the case of Sharon above. She is kind, considerate, determined, thoughtful, is a good sport and cares. I recommend anyone getting to know her better and maybe even joining forces in a project with her like I did. She's a good

I had a hundred + and not one recommendation, even declined a few like Felikks did but found people recommending me after I acknowledged them and communicated with them in a meaningful way. Many I have 'dealt' with have not done it yet; I wonder why...?? :- (
Hi Kelifss, I was only having a little fun with your suggestion of asking for a recommendation! The only way you could write a recommendation about me is to get to know me better. You can get to know Karatbars by checking out my link and studying it. You joining as a member would be recommendation enough for me and others! ;-)

I've 761 connections and 1 normal & 1 strange recommendation (I would like delete it, but can't because here it's impossible). If you would like to get recommendations, you must be active and helpful (also you must provide quality content) or you must ask for recommendation. Anyway - I don't like this feature, because recommendations appear in places where I not would like to see them (for example, business center and brand page). So, if you would like to get recommendation - be active and help
