I just started using a private family app... All my close & distant family / relatives can easily join my app - Works on all mobile devices, or web browser and it can even be used on an ipod touch or gaming device!!! So now I've got a safe private place that's great to share with children too! So excited to be creating this forever heirloom with all my family & relatives and have it available for future generations!!!
On Thanksgiving day we had a large part of our family for dinner and hooked the laptop up to the 40" TV so we could Skype our son's family 3,000 miles away and had a great family visit for a half hour or so. No it's not in person, but it is the next best thing. The highlight was my 3 year old grandson playing the guitar and singing.
I think the social media that were already mentioned is great. But how about making a phone call to that distant relative while the event is going on. Just come off all of the excitement for a moment and just let them hear your voice, tell them you love and miss them. Just a thought...

Facebook has had it's place in time... But when it comes to our children - I'd prefer them to not get exposed to all the ads and predators! We think it's great to have free social sites, but they are not really free when you realize that you are paying by the information that's collected and used to target ads to us. I've also found that there are many fake accounts on Facebook - people who have asked to become my friend. How unfortunate that this has gone so crazy! As for collecting videos and
There are a few solutions to sharing with those who aren't in attendance. You can use Skype to share the event as it happens and everyone can interact. However, that doesn't save the event. You can take videos and share them. You can also take pictures and share them either via email or on social media.
I would use Saboor Hassan who is a member here on Apsense and give him the required pics and the music and let him make a video for me as he has once done as a demo for me as I thought it was so damn cool, would certainly do that.

Skype is very useful in these circumstances. However weddings and births require a personal appearance.
