Do you promote yourself first or your business?

I think it important to promote myself. I want to get to know people before I can help them find a business that suits them.

I always promote myself first, then build relationships before promoting my biz. People join people. Now with that said, if you are in direct sales I would promote my product.

Its no right or wrong way I just get better results when I connect with people first, it takes more time. Its worth it because once a person trust you, then they are open to recommendations.

Thanks for all the feedback, I was working on my list promoting myself first but a few people get upset when I can't get back to them fast. I find when I promote the business I dont get prospects info to follow up. They may not want my main business but may enjoy a great book I recommend.
