It is important to have your own domain especially when you are promoting products from companies which are on Clickbank and similar companies. It is also important to have your own domain when you are in the affiliate marketing side of the business.

I think a blog listed in your website is very important for traffic and your customers. It provides an excellent source of information and news. The domain aspect is debatable. I have my own, but I have other friends who use a subdomain service and they have a lot of page value because of it. I am not sure how customers reflect on it.
