YouTube: Learn How to Play Videos with The Screen Off On Android And iOS – YouTube Vanced

Officially, it is impossible to enjoy a YouTube video with the screen turned off on Android and iOS smartphones. This feature, oh so useful and pleasant, is reserved for subscribers to YouTube Premium and Music. As a reminder, this package allows users to browse the platform without advertising, and offers the possibility of viewing content offline.

 

A priori, it would therefore be necessary to go to the cash register to watch content with the screen off. It was without counting our little tips to get around the limitations set by YouTube. Indeed, there is a solution for free users who want to enjoy their video without the image. We explain the procedure to you.

 

1. Go to the YouTube website           

 

On your Android or iOS smartphone, open your Internet browser and go to the YouTube site. Do not go through the application, but through the website.

 

2. Switch to the Desktop version of the site

 

This is the essential aspect of the manoeuvre if you hope to be able to read content in the background with the screen off. Indeed, the mobile web version of YouTube also does not allow you to play videos without the image. To work around the problem, load the Desktop or Desktop version of YouTube.

 

You will therefore come across an interface identical to the one you find on PC. Not necessarily very ergonomic depending on the size of the screen of your smartphone, but it is the sine qua num condition if you want to enjoy YouTube in the background.

 

2a. On android

2b. On iOS                                       

 

IOS users, once in Safari, simply click on the aA icon hidden in the address bar. Same process, also choose Computer version. Let the page refresh and enjoy your video, all with the screen off and your smartphone locked.

 

3. How to start playing in the background

 

3a. On android

 

Once these few steps have been completed, lock your screen and reactivate it immediately. Go to the Android quick access pane and start playing your content again through the media player. And now, voila!

 

3b. On iOS                                                       

 

Different platforms, but same manipulation. On your iPhone, lock your device and reopen it. As on Android, go through the Control Center to restart the playback of your content. Note that you can also do this even faster from the lock screen interface.
