Which is the best purifier for your health: RO or UV?
Today, there is a growing concern about the quality of water. Whether it is municipal water or groundwater, it is not considered safe for drinking without proper purification. The increase in pollution levels, industrial waste, and rapid urbanization has contaminated the water sources and it requires multiple levels of purification before it can be used for consumption. Water with high levels of TDS is not considered safe for drinking and hence needs a RO purifier that can remove high levels of TDS. However, most of the time the river or lake water doesn’t contain high levels of TDS. In such scenarios, you can depend on UV water purifiers to remove the microbes present in the water.
You need to choose the purifiers based on the quality of water. Although many people try to know which purifier is best between RO and UV, both serve a different purpose and you must understand it thoroughly before choosing the right one.
Best Purifier for Your Health: RO or UV
RO Water Purifiers:
RO water purifiers are specifically designed to reduce high levels of TDS in water. When the water has a high percentage of TDS, i.e 500 or above then it is not considered safe for drinking. Water with high TDS is usually hard and often has a metallic taste. In such cases, RO water purifiers are very effective in eliminating the TDS and make the water safe for consumption.
RO water purifiers work with the help of a semipermeable membrane which is effective in holding back the harmful impurities present in the water. The RO process also converts hard water into soft water by removing all the dissolved solids. It can also take out the bad odor and metallic taste to provide you with sweet water.
If the source of water is groundwater or the water you receive has high TDS then RO is the best water purifier for home. However, RO can’t remove the microorganisms from the water. You need to buy a UV purifier if your water is not high in TDS but contains microbes. Otherwise, the best option is to choose a combination of RO + UV water purifier which can take care of both these concerns.
UV Water Purifiers:
If the TDS in the water is low and the source of water is rivers or lakes then you can opt for a UV water purifier. UV or UltraViolet water purifiers are effective in removing the bacteria and viruses present in the water.
UV purifiers have a UV lamp that deactivates the microbes present in the water. However, UV purifiers can’t remove TDS in the water. You can opt for UV water purifiers only when the source of water is rivers or lakes which usually contain low levels of TDS.
Both RO and UV water purifiers are effective in purifying the water but both serve different purposes. Hence, you can either opt for a multi-stage water purifier that contains both RO and UV or choose either of the technologies depending on the quality of the water.
