When Water Damage Strikes, Don’t Panic! Keep Your Cool and Call TDS
Water damage can happen in your home when water finds its
way where it shouldn’t be. The damage depends on how much is used and if
detection was quick enough to stop the problem before things worsened.
Grey water contains potentially dangerous contaminants. At
the same time, black harborages are terrible for your health when you have a
sewage backup at home or any other instance where there’s been exposure to
dirty flooding liquid which poses risks such as government has warned us about
since last year. Still, it seems like people don’t listen, so now what? Grey
sedan cars can be damaged by static electricity too.
Look out for a few warning signs if you think your water-damaged property
might be suffering from leaks. One of these is ceiling stains, which can
indicate mildew and mold growth due in part to an excess amount and
poor-quality plumbing materials used during construction decades ago. Another
important point includes checking up on wallpaper that seems too soft. It could
mean it’s deteriorating at the fastest possible because there has been direct
contact between dampness/humidity levels found within this space and natural
elements outside such as wind gusts, etc.! Budging wall panels may also signal
high humidity conditions.

· Clean up
standing water using sponges, mops and rags. Move valuables and belongings away
from water, remove wet rugs from the water area.
· Ventilate

windows. Turn on the air conditioning. During the winter, turn on the heat and
open the windows.
· Freeze valuable documents. If you
discover wet papers, you might not be able to dry them immediately, slow down
early mildew growth, you can freeze them. Later, you can take your time to dry
and preserve them carefully.
· Take
pictures. Pictures are an essential part of the documentation required for
insurance purposes. You can take pictures with your phone or camera to show the
extent of the damage.

What you should not do in the water damage is just as important, if
not more so, than what to do. Below are points which you should not do for leak
detection and mitigation
Do not use any of your electronic appliances near a wet
floor, and do not try to vacuum up water if you are standing on a wet floor.
Walk around rooms with saggy ceilings. Scrutinize rooms with
damaged ceilings before stepping inside. If a leak originates from above,
sagging can be the result.
When you see saggy ceilings, do not enter the room — water
damage could occur and lead to a ceiling collapse.
Do not leave wet fabrics in one room. Do not leave the
fabrics stuck together. The longer the damp fabric clings together, the easier
it is for mold and mildew to grow. Separate fabric items and lay them out to
dry as soon as possible.
