When is the Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka?
Wonder what makes Sri Lanka a beloved
destination for nature lovers? Its luscious green jungles, vibrant local
culture or its pristine beaches; they are definitely amongst the foremost
reasons but it is also the unique climate of this pearl drop island that
attracts thousands of tourists every year.
Blessed with two monsoon seasons, Sri
Lanka is bound to be rich with flora and fauna. Unlike most of the tropical
countries, the weather doesn’t follow a clockwise routine in Sri Lanka. It
could be sunshine in the afternoon and torments of rainfall in the evening.
Fret not; a slight change in weather won’t ruin your idea of a perfect vacation.
Here is a weather guide to enjoy your Sri Lankan holiday to the fullest.
January to March:
Arguably the most fantastic time to
travel the entire country. Basking in the glory of sunshine, Sri Lanka looks
the prettiest during these months. For someone who loves the solitude of
mountains, visiting Kandy, Colombo, and Dambulla is perfect for this season.
For a quieter stay at the capital, you can find an accommodation in Dehiwala very easily. Though, you might not enjoy
the beach time at south and west coasts this time of the season, as they are
extremely hot and dry in this season.
July to September:
You will be welcomed by the lovely
“inter-monsoon” showers if you happen to visit Sri Lanka during this time of
the month. The soft sprinkles of rain will certainly make your visit delightful
at the beaches and central country. The average temperature is around 29 degree
Celsius at this time of the year. July through September is definitely a great
time to travel to the beautiful island nation.
October and November:
The months of October through November
bring second showers of monsoon from the north-east. And if you happen to visit
the country during this particular time, be prepared to face a heavy downpour. The
entire atmosphere is extremely calming, thanks to the lovely rain but you might
not be able to enjoy the hill side of the country between these months. Second
monsoons are usually unpredictable in Sri Lanka, as they can be stronger,
lighter, or even torrential at times.
December:
This is the month when monsoons wind up
but the temperature still remains lovely. You can thoroughly enjoy the lush
landscapes of countryside though you might feel a bit cold and dry. For those
who have a penchant for coastlines, beach side is heaven! Do visit the lovely
west and south side beaches of Sri Lanka during this time.
