What to Look for in Dietary Supplements From the Health Vitamin Store
Food is the best way to get all the nutrients
your body needs. But if you think your diet might miss the mark, a few
supplements and high-quality vitamins should help fill in
those gaps and allow you to achieve your health goals. Yet, it seems like
everyone has a diet pill or supplement to sell you. You can’t even go on social
media without an influencer telling you how to get a slimmer waistline. What
can you do to know who’s telling the truth and who’s trying to sell you junk?
You need to shop smart!
#1 Do
your homework. Don’t take anyone’s word for it; Look
up what each supplement does, as well as its risks and benefits. Too many
people just grab stuff off the shelf because they heard about it on TV or
because their friends are talking about it. If something sounds too good to be
true, it probably is! When in doubt, ask your doctor.
#2
Check for seals of approval. You don’t need to figure
out high-quality vitamins all on your own. There are companies and
organizations who do this hard work for you! ConsumerLab.com, NSF
Internationals, and U.S. Pharmacopeia are just a few of the independent
organizations that do tests to see if the ingredients on the label are in the
container and the product is up to their standards. It is important to realize
that they don’t test to see if the supplement has a particular health effect or
is safe, simply that it contains the ingredients it claims to.
#3 Have
all of your questions answered before you begin taking it. In order to be as knowledgeable as possible, you have to ask the right
questions. Make sure you get the answers for these four questions:
How much of this do I take?
What are the benefits of this supplement?
Does this supplement have any risks?
How long should I or can I take it?
If you can’t find the answer to one of these,
or don’t like the answer you get, move on to a different product.
#4 Only
trust a retailer that’s easy to get ahold of. You may
have further questions beyond this. Call the maker or company selling the
product. They can answer questions about ingredients, how much to take, the
side effects, and more. If they’re nearly impossible to reach, there may be a
reason- like they are not a legitimate company.
You want to begin these vitamins and supplements to get healthier and achieve your body goals. By sticking with these four tips, you can know that what you are putting into your body will do just that!
