What Is the Syllabus and Exam Pattern of the AILET 2019?

The countdown for All India Law Entrance Test (AILET 2019) has started. The official notification has been released by the NLU (National Law University) Delhi on 4th Jan 2019. It is to be held on May 5, 2019 from 10 to 11.30 AM. It is a university-level law entrance exam for admission to courses like B.A. LL.B (Hon.), LL.M and PhD programs i.e. both UG (Undergraduate) and PG (Post Graduate) programs. The registration deadline for AILET 2019has been extended by a week from 8th April, 2019 to 15th April, 2019.

As in any competitive exam, the question paper is set based on the syllabus of AILET, which is obviously different for UG and PG exams. Those who are appearing for the AILET 2019 need to be aware of topics and the pattern that the exam follows in order to make their strategy. Hard work is important, but after understanding the syllabus and question-type, you can work in the right direction and get closer to your dream of qualifying.

Exam Pattern for AILET 2019 UG

For the undergraduate courses, the total duration of the exam is 90 minutes and the paper will have 150 multiple choice questions, carrying 1 mark each. The subject-wise breakup of those 150 marks is given below:

    • General Knowledge, English, Legal Aptitude and Reasoning will have 35 questions each. It means a total of 140 marks are covered in these four subjects.

    • Numerical Ability, which is elementary Maths, will have 10 questions resulting in further 10 marks making a grand total of 150.

General Knowledge: For these 35 marks, the students need to be aware of current affairs and happenings. They should also read topics related to history, civics, geography, general science and economics.

English: The important topics for English section are idioms, and phrases, antonyms and synonyms, comprehension passages, jumble words and sentences, choosing correct words and fill in the blanks

Legal Aptitude: In this section, the focus will be on the problem-solving ability and the research aptitude regarding questions on the study of law. A number of propositions will be given and based on what the student selects the aptitude is tested.

Reasoning: It will have questions on logical sequences and analogies.

Elementary Maths: This 10 marks will have basic questions on Profit and Loss, Speed and Distance, Time and Work, Venn Diagrams, Permutation and Combination and Algebra.

Exam Pattern for AILET 2019 PG

For the PG exam, the AILET 2019 question paper will consist of objective type questions and one essay question. The total paper is graded out of 150 marks, where objective questions make up for about 100 marks and the essay question is worth the other 50 marks. There is negative marking in case of objective questions. Each right answer fetches you 1 mark, while for each wrong answer you get -0.25. Thus, one should be really careful while answering and shouldn’t do guesswork.

The results of BA LLB will be released on 24th May, while the results for LLM and PhD will come on the 2nd and the 16th of July 2019 respectively.
