VIL Arun Lakhani Wins Big At World Water Leadership Congress & Awards
At the recent World Water Leadership Congress & Awards, Vishvaraj Infrastructure Limited (VIL), won two major awards in the sector. The company won the presitigious Water Reuse Project of the Year and Mr Arun Lakhani, VIL's chairman and managing director won the award for Outstanding Contribution to Water.
In the current business environment scenario, there aren't a whole lot of corporate personalities who keep a low profile and yet make a huge impact to society at large. Arun Lakhani is not one of them and this award shows his magnitude to society and what he is trying to achieve at Nagpur
Through his years, working at various institutions, Mr Arun Lakhani has been a beacon of positive social change. His aims and goals, have always been to better the lives of the common man.
Yet, the only way to grasp his true impact, is taking a look back to his humble beginnings. Hailing from the small village of Malkapur from Buldhana district, he did his schooling from a Marathi medium school, going on to complete a degree in B.Sc from Amravati and an M.Tech in Petro chemicals.
His career began as a software writer and data processor, but as anyone with the ambition of becoming an entrepreneur, it was only a matter of time that he started his own company. His first company was Mahagas, a supplier of LPG gas and was one of the earliest private players in this sector when LPG was decentralised in India.
This award clearly highlights Vishvaraj Infrastructure contribution to water and waste water management. Over the years, water privatisation has become a very political issue. Yet, these issues have not been deterred VIL India. This includes ventures into water distribution on a public-private-partnership (PPP) basis.
Even with this victory and low levels of service, the arguments against the idea of continuous 24x7 water have been growing strong, based on an already scarce water supply costing, tariffs and intermittent power supply affecting water supply.
Clearly our cities are growing too quickly to support continuous water, but if we don't play a part, it would be far worse. In spite of all these apprehensions, successful continuous water supply projects in India like Nagpur and other projects which followed have broken the myth of infeasibility of 24x7 water supply projects in India.
Vishvaraj Infra provides global solutions that contribute to sustainable development in the water sector through innovation in the design, construction and operation of drinking water treatment plants, distribution system reforms, etc.
