The Grand Palace – What could be better than starting your Thailand journey from the Grand Palace? This majestic complex is situated in the heart of Bangkok and within the premises of the palace wall as it still holds several royal ceremonies and state functions. It is open to the public but not the whole palace, for some of the major administrative office still runs from here. Construction of this immense building was apparently started by King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke on 6th May 1782.  Spend the day by exploring by exploring around its sprawling gardens, museums, the Emerald Buddha Temple and if you are lucky even catch a glimpse of the ‘Changing of the Guard’.

Traditional Boat Ride in Klong (Canal) – One of the greatest ways to discover the country is riding in a traditional long tail boat across the bustling Klong or Canal. Here, you will find floating markets selling all kinds of things from flowers, vegetables and even local foods. A ride through the canals gives you a fabulous view of Wat Arun and the Temple of Dawn. This waterway is an integral part of the country, for one can reach from one place to another very swiftly without getting stuck in the regular traffic jams and red lights. And, perhaps this is the reason why the country is also referred as the ‘Venice of the East’.

Death Railway Tour on the River Kwai – Get wistful by riding though the ‘death railway’, that took the lives of hundreds of POWS and locals during the Second World War. This half broken bridge was erected by the Japanese Army in 1942, as a route to supply armour and other supplies to their soldiers who were fighting against the Allied Force. During your trip here, visit the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery also and pay respect to those brave souls who perished while constructing it under extreme conditions.

Every year thousands of people plunge here to relax and rejuvenate in its sugar crystals like beaches under the shade of the pam trees.
