Types of Hair Transplant Treatment Available in India
When it comes to cost-effective hair transplant treatment in
India, there are three options available to patients. They are:
- Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)
- Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE
DHI is the most advanced as well as effective hair transplant technique. The scientific principles employed are intricate, but the concept is simple. Hair extracted from abundant areas is distributed in areas of severe and apparent hair loss. In this painless procedure, incisions using scalpel and stitches are not involved. Transplanting is done under local anaesthesia. It is safe and there are no side effects. Patient's own hair carefully extracted from the donor area is used. In specific cases, hair may be extracted from other areas. Artificial hair is not used at all.
FUT, also referred to as strip surgery, is a commonly used procedure for hair transplant. This procedure is ideal for patients that have a large area of baldness. FUT technique involves removing the hair-bearing skin from the back side of the head of the patient. Soon after the removal of the hair strip, it is put inside a physiological solution to minimize the natural fluids of the body. It also gives time to suture the gap formed at the back of the patient's head. The strip is then divided into grafts of one/two follicles under a microscope. They are then implanted in bald areas.
FUE involves removal of individual hair follicles from the donor portion of the patient's body, typically the back and sides of the head. Then the individual follicles are implanted in the affected areas. During the procedure, the individual follicles (typically 1 to 4 hairs) are harvested under local anaesthesia. FUE hair transplant procedure can be completed in one long session or a number of smaller sessions. Typically, it takes more time than the strip surgery but does not leave any scars.
