The lack of care and maintenance can make even the most robust substances wear away and this is something that we see with concrete surface. Despite the fact that it is a really robust material that can withstand continuous abuse from the nature, it also requires some amount of care and maintenance.

This can be given in a number of ways like polishing, concrete resurfacing Sydney and so on. Without these steps and because of constant wearing away, the concrete will start developing cracks. These were the basic reasons behind the formation of cracks, but the fact is that numerous factors play a very crucial role in concrete cracking and this article has discussed some of them.

WHY DOES CONCRETE CRACK?

As mentioned above, a concrete surface can develop cracks for a number of reasons and for concrete lovers; these cracks are nothing less than an eyesore. According to concrete resurfacing specialists, these cracks should immediately make you understand that there is some structural defect that can become a serious trouble in no time at all.

Types of Cracks:

PLASTIC SHRINKAGE-

When concrete is prepared for application, it is basically a mixture of water and cement that shrinks when it hardens and the water evaporates out of the mixture. If the quantity of water is more in the mixture, more water will evaporate out of it and thus, more shrinking would appear. Here, too much of shrinking is not good, because when it goes really errant, cracks can appear that can develop into bigger ones with the passing time.

In a majority of cases, these cracks are very rarely seen because of being hairline cracks, but when not taken care of immediately, they can grow to develop into bigger and perilous cracks. The solution to this is present with concrete resurfacing specialists, so contacting them should not be delayed at all.

EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION-

In terms of cracks formation, the weather has a huge role to play and the kind of weather prevailing in your area can influence its shape and size. For example – hot weather condition can make concrete slabs to expand whereas, during the winter season, due to moisture loss, these concrete surfaces shrinks and cracks develop there too.

In the summer season too, the chances of crack formation are really high, mainly if the concrete expands and interferes with an object that doesn’t flex.

HEAVING AND SETTLING-

Here, the term "heaving" is referred to the concrete surface that is raised by the ground movement caused underneath the concrete surface.

This same can happen because of excessive freeze and also thaw cycle and other than this, development of root can also cause heaving that eventually becomes a reason of cracks developing.

Let’s talk of settling that is also considered a cause of crack’s development on the concrete surface and this settling can also be caused by development of roots underneath the concrete surface.

The presence of roots can cause settling that generally means shifting of soil and this is also a reason behind the development of cracks.

Other than these, other common factors like excessive pressure, premature drying of the construction and others are also the main reasons behind the development of cracks. When detected early, these cracks are minor and fairly simple to fix.
