Tips for Artists: Creating your own style
An artist is a vast vessel of emotions that are poured on canvas using colours, patterns, combinations, and unique style. Every person is different and so is the perception to look at objects.
The object that may seem exquisite for artist A might appear senseless to artist B. It happens a lot. Especially, if you look at the junction at which Indian contemporary art is standing, you would be able to relate what I am trying to put forward.
India and the entire world is witnessing the explosion of creativity and newness in artworks from last 2 decades or so. Although the trend to make art a non-elite commodity begun in the late 60s and the root to this idea can be found even way back, the burst of contemporary style occurred in the 90s.
Today, there are millions of artists on each continent. This is a golden period for the art world. But, amidst all this, one particular issue bothers artists every now and then. Can you guess what is it?
Well, the cut-throat competition has led to need of developing a rare style of their own for the artists. Because we all know only a bunch of artists make it to the top and earn the fame.
So, this blog is dedicated to helping all the artists who seek a unique style for themselves. Let’s start:
Select three artists who touch your heart
Art is all about the feeling that is generated from the mesmerising concept, aesthetic patterns, and vivacious colour combinations. So, as an artist, if you are struggling to find your own style, seek the top 3 artists whose work stimulates your emotional connection.
Remember that it is quite essential that all 3 or atleast 2 of the selected artists should have the similar style with each other. Do not choose an artist because of the sophistication and the fame, select the work that you love and admire. Just go with your heart.
Choose an image
An artist lives on the intuitions and the feelings that excite his/her creative flair. So, carefully and patiently choose images that reflect your selection in the above process. This is a bit tricky. There are billions of images and seeking & matching one with your choice is not as easy as it sounds.
But, if you contribute a bit of time and focus, I am sure you will eventually land up with exemplary images. Try to picture if you want to hang such paintings in your own house.
Give a good look
This step is all about how much you are ready to give. Time is what you require to devote to the pictures you have selected in the above step. As an artist, carefully and stringently analyse the image to find even the minutest elements in the painting. For instance when you look at an Indian contemporary art, the more you look and observe, the more work speaks to you. So, try to note the artistic flair and technicalities in those images carefully.
Fusion
This is the most fun and the most arduous step. Make sure to blend all the above elements and start developing a painting of your own. Very carefully select a subject that you always want to explore and understand more. It’s important that you fuse all the above elements with the utmost care and precision to come up with a rare style of your own.
