The reason for failing an MOT test is not always a big issue as even an ignored small fault can often be. If you feel that it has been a long time since your car has been maintained or repaired or any part of the car is not in good condition or is not working properly, it is your responsibility to care for it. If for any reason you find that you have not passed the MOT test, you will have to participate in the re-test and you will be charged again for this. So avoid unnecessary expenses and try to fix as many problems as possible before testing.

Wipers:- The wipers are also carefully inspected to determine whether there are any defects. One reason for their failure in the test is that they create scratches on the windscreen. If you find out these reasons, you only need to replace the wiper rubber, not the entire wiper. Sometimes a pebble can get stuck in the rubber of the blade and cause a scratch, and you can try to remove it yourself. That's why we suggest noting down these minor problems and trying to fix them before attending the MOT Test in Clevedon

Windscreen

You need to understand that any kind of crack or scratch visible on the windscreen or a sticker paste on it makes it difficult to pass the MOT test. According to DVSA, all this creates a hindrance in the driver's view while driving that breaks road safety standards, so testers note it as a significant issue.

Vehicle Registration Plate

If any kind of change or damage is found in the registration plate then it is not a good sign. Therefore the tester also checks it and the light installed above it. The light position and its brightness should also be normal. The registration number of your vehicle should be visible, i.e. no symbols should be missing or hidden.

Lights

Lights play a huge role in making your driving journey safe, so it is very important to minimize their use. Therefore, during testing these are also inspected and many points are considered. Here we are talking about the lights installed in the vehicle like indicators, fog lights, rear lights, and brake lights. Before attending an MOT, make sure they all work properly and make your journey and that of others safe. By the way, we would like to point out that there are some vehicles which have been approved for lighting, but instructions have also been attached to them that they can be used only during the day, not when it starts getting dark.

Seatbelts

You must be well aware of the importance of seatbelts. Not using them also reduces the mileage of your vehicle. These should also be inspected during the MOT test and their hooks, latches, length, smoothness and condition should be checked according to the examiner. Any kind of defect in these will not be ignored as it poses a risk of creating danger on the road. It will take you some time to check these but you will know very well that these will not be a hindrance in passing the test.

Horn

If the sound of your vehicle’s horn can be heard and deliver the right signal to the other persons besides you, certainly, you will not find it difficult to pass the test in one go. Due to this reason, many vehicles were not able to clear this test, so take it seriously.

Suspension and Steering System

The job of the suspension system is to absorb all the bumps that may occur while driving on potholes, slopes, and rough or rocky roads. If we talk about the steering system, it helps in controlling the stability and balance of the vehicle. They start to deteriorate when parts encounter minor problems or get damaged or worn out due to shocks, such things affect the handling performance of the vehicle. You should pay attention to their condition through regular inspections, not only for the sake of MOT but also for your safety. Over time, if we do not pay attention to the fault, it becomes serious and causes problems in other connected parts as well. That is why DVSA has also included these among the checkpoints.

Tyres

Whenever a tyre bursts, gets punctured or something else happens, we go to the Car Garage in Clevedon to get it repaired, but we do not pay attention to its tread depth, however, it is a very important thing to note. New tyres seem to have a certain level of tread depth, but as you drive, the tread wears out and becomes thinner. There is a time when that tread depth turns into 1.6mm which is the minimum requirement for road grip and handling then it becomes necessary to replace the tyre if you want to keep yourself and others safe from the road's risks. It is not good to use such tyres on wet tracks, but even on dry tracks they lose their stability and can even disturb the balance of the car.
