Perspex is a form of an acrylic material that is used as an alternative to glass for making different plastic products. Today cups, tumblers, signage, wine glasses, etc. are all made of Perspex. The products are very useful to people as they are dust and scratch resistant, unbreakable and require less maintenance. Due to the versatility, these acrylic products are also cost effective. This is why, Perspex products are so lovable among commercial and residential usages.

Perspex products are a form of pure acrylic plastics which are strong and has the features similar to a glass. However, the durability is twice and the weight is several times less than a glass. The specialized form of plastics does not easily shatter, or discolour when exposed to sunlight or ultra violet rays.

Advantages of using Perspex or Acrylic products

There is a lot of benefits that acrylic products offer. Some of them are as follows:

  • Anything made from Perspex can withstand rough handling.

  • The material is very versatile and resilient and thus, can be moulded or cut into different shapes.

  • They can hold their colour for a prolonged period.

  • Crockeries made of acrylic materials can even withstand intense heat.

  • They are cheaper than glass.

  • The products are eco-friendly. They are made from artificial materials and can be recycled. This means that the manufacturing process is not harming the planet like other forms of plastic do.

Acrylic Formation Process

To be more knowledgeable about these specialised plastic products, you must know how they are formed. Well, methyl methacrylate is the primary molecule or monomer that is used to form acrylic products. Other similar monomers are sometimes used to form different acrylic materials. They are methyl acrylate and acrylonitrile. The quality of the plastic materials depends on these monomer reactions. When the proportion of these monomers are controlled, the plastic materials change in elasticity and quality.

Controlling the Quality

The handling, processing and storage of these chemicals are done under strict environmental conditions so that they do not get contaminated and make the manufacturing process unsafe. The polymerisation must be done under controlled temperature. Even the temperatures of the monomers are controlled properly before their introduction in the mould.

This shows that Perspex materials are not just beneficial to people, but the manufacturing process is also executed with caution and care to provide quality and safety.
