T20 World Cup 2024: New York Boosts Security for India vs. Pakistan Match

Governor’s office confirms monitoring situation, no credible threats identified

Security at Eisenhower Park Stadium in New York will be heightened for the India vs. Pakistan match on June 9 during the T20 World Cup 2024, according to ESPNCricinfo.

The governor’s office stated they are keeping an eye on the situation and, based on current intelligence, "there is no credible public safety threat at this time."

Eisenhower Park Stadium, located about 25 miles east of Manhattan, will host eight matches from June 3 to June 12, including the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul mentioned that her administration has been working with law enforcement for months to ensure these games proceed smoothly.

"I have directed the New York State Police to increase security measures, including more law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes," she said. "Public safety is my top priority, and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe, enjoyable experience."

Authorities have found no evidence to support the reported threats, but the ICC emphasized that security will be "robust" throughout the tournament, including at the New York venue.

An ICC spokesperson stated, "The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority. We have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place and work closely with authorities in our host countries to mitigate any risks."

India will play four matches in New York: against Canada on June 5, Pakistan on June 9, the USA on June 12, and a warm-up match against Bangladesh. The Indian team arrived in the US on Tuesday and has started training, though Virat Kohli has yet to join after a rest period.

Earlier this month, the ICC and Cricket West Indies, co-hosting the World Cup with the US, assured they are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of fans and players.
