Part 1: Initiation

  1. Access the GST Portal: Visit the official Goods and Services Tax (GST) portal of India at https://www.gst.gov.in/.

  2. Create an Account: Click on "New Registration" and select "Taxpayer" under "I am a." Choose your state and district from the options provided.

  3. Provide Business Details: Enter your business name, PAN number, email address, and mobile number. You'll receive a One Time Password (OTP) for verification on both your email and phone.

  4. Temporary Reference Number (TRN): After verification, note down the displayed Temporary Reference Number (TRN) for future reference.

Part 2: Completing the Application

  1. Return to the Portal: Go back to the GST portal and navigate to "Services" again. This time, choose "Register" and select "Temporary Reference Number (TRN)" as the option. Enter your TRN along with the captcha code and click "Proceed."

  2. Verify Details & Enter OTPs: The portal will display your pre-filled application based on the details you entered earlier. Carefully review the information and make any necessary corrections. Enter the OTPs sent to your registered email and phone for verification.

  3. Complete Application Sections: You'll be presented with 10 sections to complete within the application. These sections may include:

    • Photographs of authorized signatories
    • Proof of business address (rental agreement, utility bills)
    • Bank account details
    • Authorization form
    • Taxpayer constitution (depending on your business structure)
    • Business registration documents (PAN, Aadhaar)
  4. Upload Documents: Upload all the required documents in the designated sections. Ensure the documents are clear and in the specified format.

  5. Verification Page: Once all sections are complete and documents uploaded, proceed to the "Verification" page. This might involve a physical verification of your business premises by a GST officer.
