Considering
the constant turmoil the outbreak of Coronavirus has created around the world
in extraordinary ways, the immigration authorities in South Australia has
decided to prioritise the processing time of healthcare and medical
professionals. The department has taken this step to support the state
government’s response to the covid-19 outbreak.
To
do so, the government of South Australia has given a relaxation in work experience
requirements for medical and healthcare workers. The priority processing is
applicable for candidates who have graduated from a university in South
Australia, and currently work and live in SA only in their nominated
occupation. These applicants are now exempt from three-month work experience
requirement. Additionally, applicants will only be able to apply for a
provisional 491 Australia
visa, which allows a skilled worker to live and work in the state for
five years.
Nurses
who are registered and currently working in their nominated occupation or
closely related occupation, are now exempted from the five-year work experience
requirement in order to migrate to South Australia.
The
change clearly depicts how the government of South Australia is committed to
boost inflow of skilled immigration into the state. The Australia immigration authorities give
preferences to people who study, reside, and chose to work in the state only.
Therefore,
the change will impact only those who have studied, lived, and worked as
healthcare professionals in Australia. A lot of skilled migrants from India are
already residing and working as nurses in SA, they will definitely feel
position about the aforementioned changes.
The
state immigration has clearly stated that the processing time will be dependent
on the number of applications received, however, priority will only be given to
applicants working as nurses or healthcare practitioners.
