Riverside County Sheriff’s also called as Riverside Sheriff’s Office Department Located in Riverside County in California in the US state. It is a law enforcement agency providing court services and manages Coroner –Public Administrator duties and five correctional facilities. The department is managed by the sheriff – coroner, mainly serves in the unincorporated areas of Riverside County and few incorporated cities of the county on contract basis. Its operation covers above 7,200 square miles and 17 of the Riverside County’s 28 cities are covered under contract police services. The department maintained their own police stations in cities like Palm Springs, Beaumont and Riverside. However, In the case of requirement of law enforcement service in these cities, one needs to contact the local police stations, not the sheriff department. The department was created on May 9, 1893 with a single staff operation, It has been steadily growing county as the county’s population grown and In due course it changed into a modern law enforcement agency. Vast transformations have seen in the department since its establishment. The department also operates the Riverside County Jail System. It provides a short –range imprisonment services for the subjects arrested and accused with law breaking crimes pending their court proceedings as well as those sentenced for transgression crimes with less than one year of imprisonment. The department is responsible for prisoner transportation in case of court appearances and also transferring to other jurisdictions of the states or counties.

There are totally five jails in Riverside County that directly managed by the sheriff department. Five Jail of department consists of Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside downtown, Larry D.Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, Southwest Detention Center in French Valley near Temecula and Murrieta, the Indio Jail as the name says located in Indio city and the Blythe Jail.
Robert Presley Detention Center located in the downtown river side was commenced in 1989 taking the place of the old riverside county jail. It is operated by the sheriff department as a corrections division. Jail is constructed with double occupancy rooms with security units in case of hospitalization requirement for any medical assistance purposes. Hospital security units work under the command of Riverside county jail commander and under the direction of the chief of the corrections division. It is constructed keeping earthquake safety in mind. Consists of detention care unit and it is licensed for 364 beds.
