Shannie Ross Tries Something Different
How the new artist is redefining music in her own way
The way music works has changed a lot in the last two decades. Artists used to be at the complete mercy of record labels. Aside from a few exceptions, the only way artists could be famous was by doing exactly what the label dictated. That has changed completely thanks to the internet and social media. It has had a profound change on the young artists of the day. Previously, most successful young artists were the ones who had been molded into a template by producers and executives from the music label. Nowadays, we get a lot more original content, and that is exactly what we are getting with Shannie Ross’s new single Try.
It seems that Shannie isn’t here to do what every other artist is doing. There are a few things which remind us of Lorde when we listen to Shannie. They sound completely different but that is also the similarity; they sound completely different from anyone else in the game too. They are also both quite young yet you’ll never be able to guess from the quality of their music. Shannie also has an image that is very different from the mainstream – you’ll be easily able to recognize her style wherever you see it. Shannie’s music has its roots in classic pop ballads where the female singers had to have a voice mesmerizing enough to captivate the audience.
Shannie doesn’t look like any other artist out there. She recently uploaded a picture titled “Black Queen” to her Twitter and it just tells you why she is so different. No one else is rocking the style that Shannie is. She isn’t trying to capitalize on a trend; she is creating one of her own. Houston has been the home of many great artists and it seems that Shannie might just be another great addition to the list of stars that got their start here.
We also read a story about how Shannie met Adele when Shannie was very young. You can see the adorable picture of this interaction on Shannie Ross’s website. It is easy to see that Adele was influential for Shannie because Shannie has clearly put a lot of effort in perfecting not just her image but her singing as well.
You can never tell whether a song will be a hit or not. Even famous artists have releases that turn out to be duds. The song Try however has the quality needed to dominate the airwaves. Will the rest of the country groove to it the way Houston has been? That is something which only time will tell. Right now we can only wish the best of luck to Shannie and hope that we get to keep hearing her beautifully unique sound over many albums in the future. Shannie also seems like she could make some great songs which crossover with rap by adding a rap feature. We are keeping our fingers crossed for that one.
