Rug Cleaning: Do It Yourself or Hire a Service?
Rugs surely do make a house look way more gorgeous that it already is. But being something that is not cleaned very regularly along with the dusty environment of today, the routine gets a bit hectic when it comes to cleaning them. And that is when people wonder if it is better to clean them on their own or if hiring a professional rug cleaning service would be more appropriate.
Though professional rug cleaning services do help to get the job done in time and that too with minimum effort from the one who hires them, it is safe to say that it does end up costing way more than it should. Also, it makes you work along the clock with them to make sure everything is done in the best possible way and that too after spending hours and hours trying to do your research about which service to hire. And to some extent, that does become cost and time consuming. However, there is one option that is always present, especially for people who want to spend a bit less on getting their rugs cleaned: just do it yourself! Not to mention, it is extremely easy to do so. Let us tell you how.
Start with setting an outdoor station
Yes, for this project, you will probably have to move to your driveway to make sure that you make no mess inside the house since there will be a lot of water everywhere. If you can, find a strong and sturdy support to hang your rug on, but if that is not an option, you can always lay it down on the driveway and get to business there.
Get the vacuum going
The next step will be to vacuum both side of the rug thoroughly. This will help you to get rid of any extra dust and debris that would be present between the fibers, allowing you to move on to the next steps with a little less mess all together.
Do a patch test for your shampoo
This is crucial to make sure that no unwanted reaction takes place between your rug and chosen shampoo because in case it does, it will surely ruin one of your beautiful home accessories. Hence, always start with a small corner of the rug to make sure that the shampoo is suited well to the fiber your rug has.
Wash, shampoo, scrub, and rinse
Now comes the hard part. You would want to start with washing the rug with plain water followed by the required amount of shampoo which you will then scrub gently into the rug with a soft brush. Once done all over, it is time to rinse the rug in order to get all that shampoo and dirt out. For this, you can use a floor wiper too to make sure you get all the water out till no shampoo foam appears.
Time to dry it out
And now, all you have to do is let your rug dry (not under direct sunlight to avoid discoloration) till it is ready to spread on the floor again. Easy, right?
So why not get to it right now? After all, it does not seem to be too hectic of a job. It is just some plain old rinsing and cleaning till you get a rug that look just as new no matter where you put it. But if you really think that you cannot put in that much effort, then you can surely go for a rug repair and cleaning service. They will do a job just as good.
