Quilting is a process that involves sewing two or more layers of fabric together to make a thicker padded material. Commonly used for making quilts and garments, quilting is done by using a needle and thread.

It can be done both manually or through the use of machines. If you are trying quilting for the first time, you can either do it by hand or take the help of a device. Try getting some Embroidery machine, templates before you start.

To help you quilt with ease as a beginner, here are some of the quilting styles you should know about.

1. Machine Quilting

As the name suggests, the machine quilting style is created by using Janome sewing machine. Since it increases the speed of quilting, it makes the process more efficient and time- saving. You can go on to try some of the other techniques and styles, such as using stitches and machine feet differently. Just make sure that the stencil you are using with the machine should have a pattern which you like. Place the quilting template at the required place.

2. Long Arm Quilting

In case you need to do the quilting for your business, using the long arm quilting style is something that you can look forward to. This is because, in comparison to the other sewing machines, this is a special machine with an extended quilting head. This head measures up to a height of 10 to 14 feet and can effectively function to quilt the fabric. The long arm machine can be either guided by a computer or by the hand to be used.

3. Free Motion Quilting

Free motion quilting style is primarily used by people who are fond of creating things on their own. As it gives you the freedom to try out any design you want, you do not need a plan or a design before you start quilting. This style can be used on any kind of quilting machine and thus can be used to create different designs as you go along. You can start by using a straight stitch, and you can stitch in different directions as you move further.

4. Hand Quilting

Lastly, if you are doing the quilting for recreational processes, you can go on to try using a hand quilting style. It is a classic process that is slower and methodical. Traditionally, a lot of people have used this style along with a hoop to guide them better. However, if you feel that you can experiment with the style better, you can do the stitching without the use of any hoop.

Try different quilting patterns on your fabric while designing it. You can experiment with different stencil patterns when you are quilting.
