Actually this wonderful instrument is quite native to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Santoor Player in India started playing the instrument at the tender age itself. But for learning any art the first and foremost requirement is dedication, hard work and devotion. You have to be self determined to set a target and plan accordingly so as to approach it. While playing the device, the musician has to sit in the posture of Ardh-padmasana. The person has to keep the device on the top of his lap and also the broad part should be closer and the shorter portion should be kept away. The device can only be played with a pair of light wooden mallets using both the hands. The strings are basically divided into three to four units which are normally attached with the nails or pins towards the left side of the device. On the other hand, the right side consists of the sound board and the steel tuning pegs or turning pins. Its major function is to provide the musical note, frequency or the pitch.

With the westernization of music, the band culture came into existence and certainly became very popular in several counties including India. What actually is an orchestra team or party; it has been given the new name. It is being observed that most of the famous singers or musicians form their own Fusion bands in Kolkata in which there are some other music instrument players and one or two leading singers. They basically perform stage shows on different occasions and events when they are being invited personally by any organization or person in general. Initially when you have planned to learn this musical instrument, you need to find a Guru or a teacher who would provide with the training and also give you vital information regarding the parts and how to play it. But before that you need to purchase it from good and reliable musical shop. It can be costly because it is made of walnut wood.
