Northern Virginia Youth Soccer
Northern Virginia Youth Soccer has grown significantly in the past 15 years. In the past, Northern Virginia youth soccer typically focused on a single program structure. Today, however, as a result of the advancements of local club teams who are partnering with US Soccer, International Organizations and various universities, there are now a multitude of programs, tournaments and identification events available to participate in. With the new Academy and ECNL Programs, local practitioners can now strategically hand select the best development opportunities to create a complete package that best suits Northern Virginia Youth Soccer players’ needs.
Programs that are currently run, including ODP, State Pool Training, Academy, ECNL, NCSL, WAGS, ODSL, SFL etc. still play an integral role in Northern Virginia Youth Soccer Development. Each training program provides an important component in our players’ development. The local Northern Virginia Youth Soccer clubs ensure that the best avenues for the development of our Elite and Recreational players here in Northern Virginia are created to provide the correct matriculation & education.
Recently the US Youth Soccer Association released the Player Development Model, which provides a curriculum for clubs to follow from the Under-6 to Under-19 age groups (both boys and girls). This well thought out curriculum is designed to serve as a standard to Northern Virginia Youth Soccer Clubs and other organizations across the country in order to guide each of US Youth Soccer’s 55 member State Associations and more than 5,500 clubs on how to effectively train athletes of all levels and abilities.
The Player Development Model features a simple but effective structure to guide coaches through the steps of strategically training players and preparing for games. The model is broken into sections, for ease of application, from preteen to teenaged players. Using the US Youth Soccer Vision and Skills School Manual in conjunction with the Player Development Model provides clubs of all levels with guidance and information to assist their coaches and players.
Most recently Northern Virginia Youth Soccer players have been given the opportunity to play in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy program is driven by the game and its players, coaches and referees. Long-term development to this game-centric approach occurs through an in depth understanding of what makes players successful all around the world. The sport of soccer is growing in the United States. Young players in Northern Virginia and our country need the proper environment to compete against the world’s elite.
