Patna, erstwhile Patliputra, once happened to be the hotbed of Magadha Kingdom. Apart from Patliputra, the city was also known as Pataligram, Kusumpur, Pushpapura and Azimabad. It clearly reflects how the city remained the den of various rulers from time to time. Patna witnessed a lot of violent skirmishes and battles in its ancient past.

Strolling across the streets, and historical monuments in Patna, one could easily feel the whirlwind of ancient history in its every step. The main city of Patna has a radius of around 100 Km2, but total area of Patna district stretches beyond 3000 Km2.

Patna has seen tremendous development and economic growth in the last few years. I was unaware of Patna’s beauty until I went there to explore marvel of ancient Patliputra from a traveler’s perspective.

A Weekend Escapade to Patna

I took a direct flight from New Delhi to Patna. I reached Lok Nayak Jayprakash Airport in the following evening. I booked Hotel Patliputra Continental, the only 5 star hotel in Patna. Thankfully, this hotel was just 10-minutes away from the airport, so I reached there soon.

I went inside. And I was totally spellbound by Hotel Patliputra Continental’s exemplary hospitality services. The hotel staffs were polite, amiable and convincing. My stay was at the hotel’s Tower Suite on the 7th Floor.

The Tower Suite offers an aerial view of the city and Patna’s airport runway. The dishes served at the hotel were extremely delicious and scrumptious.

What I never Seen Before!

Next morning, I asked for a cab facility from the hotel, which they easily provided. My first stop was at Patna Museum. It is considered as one of the nation’s most famous museums, and a treasure trove of historical artifacts and other ancient things.

Even the newly built Bihar Musuem and Gautam Buddha Smriti Park are so special and appealing. Gladly, I saw three-four historical monuments in Patna depicting the city’s historical and cultural heritage.

At these places, one could easily sense the heavenly connotation of Buddham, Sharanam, Gachhami, which means, “I go to the Buddha for refuge” in English. You will find the mystic influence of Gautam Buddha in every nook and corner of Patna.

Frankly, as much as I wanted to, however, I couldn’t visit the other historical places of Patna like Patna Sahib Gurudwara, Jalan Museum, Agam Quan, and Indira Gandhi Planetarium due to a constraint of time.

Best Time to Travel

I suggest the visitors to visit this heavenly city during the winter season from November to March. For official events and seminars, book your stay at Hotel Patliputra Continental, Patna’s numero uno business hotel in Patna.

The Last Word

Any description of Patna stays incomplete without mentioning about Chhath Pooja. During the winter season, try to participate in this famous festival, and see how one and all irrespective of their religions bathe in the spiritual shower of this auspicious occasion.
