Moorcroft Pottery The difference between fraud and authentic pottery
Pottery, an art of making the best out of the clay! Just as God mends
the sand to form a human being, a potter mends clay to beautifully
portrait a pot. With luminous colors and artistic shades, the potter
creatively designs a pot.
Moorcroft: a name that brought revolution in the pottery world. When we talk about pottery, the thing that comes to my mind is Moorcroft. This might sound like a jargon to you, but it is a very famous name in the field of pottery. William Moorcroft was hired as a designer in 1897 by Staffordshire pottery manufacturers James Macintyre & Co.
Within a year William Moorcroft became in charge of the pottery studio. His designs and patterns were globally acclaimed. His works received a lot of fame and appreciation. But due to some clashes, the company was shut down. But not letting down the spirit, Moorcroft started his own company.
Moorcroft's design highly consisted of the art of the olden era which was so natural without the use of any technical instrument. His designs were handmade and mostly floral. After the death of William Moorcroft, his elder son Walter took over the company. Unlike William Moorcroft, Walter's design was highly influenced by the modern art and new techniques.
These designs are mainly planted for luxury purposes. They are shaped into jars, vases, plates and lamp bases. These types of master pieces are kept in some houses to show the royalty of that house. They are highly a piece of authentic pottery.
Not to be mistaken by the modern day pottery as most people does. Because, now a days, people have become so materialistic that they have started faking art as well. There has been a whole market for fraud pottery which seems to people as Moorcroft pottery. But doing a reality check, they are just a toys made of china clay.
We love to gift things that are beautifully designed and made out of art but Considering the gifts that you are going to buy as a piece of art or a matter of pride, be aware, they might just be 'fake'.
IF:
a) The thing that you are holding in your hand is too heavy
b) There is high resonance when you 'ping' it and
c) The colors are shinier or the surface is too soapy, the thing that you are holding in your hand is definitely a fake one.
You need to be very careful in differentiating the real and fake pottery piece of art. I hope the tips described with this article were fair enough to justify you with the difference between the authentic and fake pottery. Next time when you are shopping, be careful!
