Male Models
Modeling is usually a career associated with women, thanks to media coverage. But a surprising amount of male models exist in this glamorous industry, although the terms of selection are not as rigid for males as for females. Other than some basic body specifications most forms are usually accepted. And also, these models generally survive longer than female models that usually stay only till the age of 25. So male modeling is a good career option but one should also be ready to face a few bumps along the road.
Indian men have a rustic and exotic charm around them that makes them appealing to the cameras. Famous Indian models like Anup Pegu, Asif Azim, Nitin Chauhan, Gaurav Arora, Taher Ali, Sahil Shroff and the like have dazzled the ramp with their swag and attitude and that’s what it takes to be an Indian male model. So if you think you have what it takes, there are a few important steps necessary. For a budding model, a portfolio would be the need of the hour. Although after recruitment, the agency would take care of that, initially a few good quality photos of your profile, preferably by a good photographer would be an investment. It would help improvise your profile if you had previous exposure to the media. For an agency to choose you, initial work has to be done; attending model conventions, competitions or open- calls; it is all about creating contacts. You might want to put your cheerful face on.
The next step would be to decide what kind of model
you want to be. One can choose to be Fashion
models, High fashion
models, Editorial models, Runway models, Showroom models, Commercial print
models, Catalogue models, Promotional models, Character models, Glamour
modeling or Specialty models. This is important, since determining this would
reveal your comfort zone. Alright! So, there you are, super hip model; you have
yourself an agent and ready to roll. But that doesn’t mean you will get a call
from lakme soon. No, most often than not, rejection is a definite possibility.
But not to get disheartened, that is the way of the field and you wouldn’t have
made it this far if you didn’t have what it takes.
Male models are always required and new faces always sought after, so patiently wait for your turn. So during this ‘waiting period’, try to stay healthy and work up a good diet and exercise schedule. Try to be mentally fit as well since this job can be quite stressful. Find stress busters of your own that you can enjoy during leisure periods. Another important measure would be to practice various poses and walking styles. Check out male models photos and fashion shows. They didn’t get that good in one day. It takes practice. Even a photo might seem as a matter of one snap, but the expressions and emotions portrayed are practiced and learnt. It is important to bring life to the photos. And now would be a good time to catch up on acting as well. And finally to fit in with the society, improvise on your personality. Rude and obnoxious behavior spreads like wildfire around the industry. So aspiring models put your best face forward!
