Know How the Dehumidifier Works for Your Room as well as Your Wardrobe
Most of our Indian construction is known to be prone to leakage problems during rain as well as leakage from toilets and bathrooms. Such leakages cause moisture to accumulate in the rooms causing a musty and unhealthy smell and accumulation of mold on the walls. Moisture can also be accumulated due to everyday cooking as well as drying of the laundry inside the house. To sort out with major problems like leakage could take a while but in the meantime, the formation of moisture can be the cause of major illnesses in the family. The solution to this moisture problem is buying the best room dehumidifier and installing it in the area of the house which faces the moisture trouble the most.
Let us look at the working of a Dehumidifier:
There are two processes in which a dehumidifier works.
1. Refrigeration:
This process is based on the working of a refrigerator where the air is cooled to eliminate moisture. Following is how it works:
è There are grills installed on one side of the machine from where the moist or warm air is sucked in with the help of an electrical fan.
è The moist air then is passed over coolant filled cool pipes. On contact with the cold pipes, the moistures turn into liquid and drip down to the drain piped.
è The cool air which is now devoid of any moisture passes through a heating element to regain back its original temperature.
è Now an air that has a comfortable room temperature but is moisture free is blown back into the room through the grills on the other side of the dehumidifier.
è The moisture which was prevalent in the air earlier transforms into water and drips down to the collecting tray or, depending upon the model, into the direct drain system, if available.
è If the dehumidifier is of the tray collection variety then there is a plastic float attached to the collecting tray which rises with the rise in water level.
è When the tray is full the machine is tripped and automatically stopped with a light indicator switching on and informing about the level of the container tray.
2. Absorption or Adsorption:
This type of humidifier is on the basis of mapping out the moisture from the atmosphere with the help of a material that can retain water and then squeeze out the water to let it go. The mopping action can be done in two ways viz: absorption, where the water collected, is soaked into some sort of material and adsorption where the water collected is gathered on the surface of some material.
Let us understand the working of such a dehumidifier:
è Moist air is sucked in through a duct from the room with the help of an electric motor fan.
è The air is directed towards a rotating wheel made of water absorbing and retaining material which sucks in the moisture from the air.
è Another air duct which is kept hot with the help of electric heating heats the now dry air according to the settings of the thermostat
è Dry air is then blown back into the room with the help of a fan similar to the one which was used to suck it in.
There are even smaller size dehumidifiers for wardrobes available in the market to keep out the musky smell in the clothes in your closet and keep them as fresh as recently washed.
